Houston Gateway to the Americas - About a land of real opportunities
With a strong economy, a multicultural society and a spectacular quality of life, Houston is not just one of the greatest cities in the world, but also an opportunity city. It is not for nothing that today Houston is known as The City With No Limits. However, and it may seem exaggerated, you can always improve.
Shortly and due to the expansion of the Panama Canal, Houston’s leadership position will be strengthened placing the city as the principal port of Central USA, with large implications for trade and investment. Just to take into consideration, it is estimated that both the Panama Canal and the Port of Houston will see a 4X increase in traffic with the project concluding, having a direct impact on economies of large scale and international maritime trade.
Maybe that's why last week was held there the first Hemispheric Conference & Expo, an appropriate event that brought together the many resources, officials and business leaders from all around the Americas to talk about the many real opportunities the 2016 opening of the enlarged Panama Canal will bring to the US, Latin American and Caribbean companies. Fortunately we were there, and on top of that, I am proud to have been involved as speaker.
About evolving business opportunities in different fields, new opportunities for early stage companies in US, available funding and resources to assist them when they need support or want to take advantage of the economy, were some of the main topics discussed by the panelists on the Houston Gateway to the Americas Conference & Expo.
As a software development specialist company, and aware of the real purpose of helping the community to which we belong, our goal was to encourage IT companies to be aware of the opportunities the opening of the widened Panama Canal will bring to them. That´s why when TISA's turn came into the panel we focused on a simple main topic:
The greatest opportunities for software development companies in US (mainly in Houston) and how Latin America technology companies can start doing business in Houston.
About the latest mentioned, in a future post I will expose and analyze what challenges Latin America technology companies face and how to solve them when they decide to start doing business in the US. Meanwhile, if you would like to learn more about why enter the US check this out: Why enter USA
Looking forward to the next one
Following such a successful and insightful conference and expo this time around, we really cannot wait for the next one. Again, it was an absolute pleasure to participate on the conference during the Houston Gateway to the Americas program, a 3 days event that undoubtedly expanded on existing trade and led to additional transfer of technology and business among other areas.
